Auto Carpet Cleaning Tips
By Robert Smith
People don't realize just how
much abuse an auto carpet actually takes over the course of a
vehicle's life. Too many car owners seem to believe that cleaning
car carpet consists of simply using the vacuum that is provided
to you at the local carwash, or convenience store. If you truly
want your car's carpet to be clean however you're going to have
to put a little more effort into it.
An auto carpet picks up everything
that touches our shoes as we go about our daily business. This
soil then gets ground deep down into the fibers, and it is almost
impossible to get out with just a vacuum cleaner.
What you have to do is make
sure that you brush the carpet very well with a stiff bristle
brush so that you can get the dirt that has been ground in loose
from the fibers.
You may have to repeat this
procedure several times when cleaning car carpet, until you have
sufficiently removed enough of the debris to then be able to
begin to deep clean the material. For this you will need a bottle
of hot water, a quarter cup of vinegar, a quarter cup of some
type of grease cutting dish detergent, the aforementioned brush,
and a wet/dry vac.
You will need all of these
tools in order for you to be able to remove all of the oil, grease
and grime that has become a part of your auto carpet over the
course of time. What you need to do is spray the cleaning solution
that consists of the ingredients listed above evenly onto your
carpet. Of course heavily stained areas will need to be covered
more heavily if the spot is to be removed.
Once you have distributed
this formula you dip your brush into hot water, and then scrub
the carpet until light foam is achieved. Then take the wet/dry
vac and remove the soap and water as best you can, and then let
the carpet dry. Of course, cleaning car carpet in this fashion
is not an exact science, and you may have to repeat the process
on some of the tougher stains before they are thoroughly removed.
Auto carpet takes a real beating
over the course of its lifetime, and most people don't pay much
attention to making sure that it is well maintained. Following
the steps seen here can lengthen the life of the fibers of your
carpet, and if nothing else make getting in your car just a little
more pleasant.
